2025 String Band Divison Results

For the first time in modern String Band history, we have a tie for 1st prize!

Congratulations to the South Philadelphia String and Quaker City String Band!

A statement from the President of the String Band Association:

We extend our gratitude to all involved in the recent 124th Mummers parade. Our appreciation is directed towards the five Mummers divisions for their splendid parade, the parade officials, and the diligent workers. A special thank you is expressed to the city of Philadelphia for facilitating such a remarkable day. We also acknowledge the Honorable Madame Mayor Parker for her continued support and participation in leading the String Band Division.

We appreciate the attendees and viewers of our parade broadcast on WFMZ and METV2.

Regarding the disqualifications in the String Band Division, the Philadelphia String Band Association, comprising 14 string bands, upholds a set of rules and regulations established by the band representatives over the past fifty-plus years. The recent disqualifications were a result of the theme submission guidelines. Each year, bands submit themes for approval by a theme committee. Regrettably, the Duffy String Band resubmitted a theme that had been previously denied due to its similarity to an already accepted theme. They opted to proceed with the initially denied theme, which was a violation of the established rules. As for the Durning String Band, they altered their accepted theme without informing the theme committee, breaching the rules they had previously supported.

While these decisions were challenging, adherence to rules and regulations ensures order within our association. We regret any disappointment caused to the fans and emphasize that such actions are not taken lightly. Upholding the integrity of the organization is paramount, and as such, rules are enforced to maintain fairness and order.

To address the tie for first prize The String Band Division has been exceptionally fortunate to have never encountered a tie for the first prize in our 124-year history. Regrettably, we currently lack a protocol to address such a situation for the top position. Although ties have occurred previously for other prize ranks, they have consistently remained unchanged. Rest assured, steps will be taken to amend this procedural gap for future parade competitions.

Thank you,

Sam Regalbuto
